October 15, 2013

Looking at market volume by branded vendors, four Chinese leading brands – ZTE, Huawei, Coolpad, and Lenovo – have seen their changes in market share.

Highlights of MIC Worldwide Mobile database's latest China research findings include:

Samsung: Samsung continued to lead in the Chinese smartphone market with a share of 19%, ahead of other international and Chinese brands in the second quarter of 2013.

Apple: The price tag of iPhone 5C is only 400 RMB (US$65.4) to 800 RMB (US$130.7) lower than 5S, higher than any of models launched by Chinese branded vendors. Although Apple has acquired 4G TD-LTE network access licenses, the company still waits for the tie-up with China Mobile.

Lenovo: Lenovo's share in the Chinese smartphone market has reached 12.9%, only next to Samsung. Lenovo is the largest local smartphone brand.

Huawei: Huawei has begun shifting focus to the high-end market to vie with international brands like Samsung and Apple, adjusting its marketing strategy that used to focus on selling 1,000 RMB (US$163.4) smartphones.

HTC: Although the HTC's market share in China grew in 2012, the company failed to compete with Apple and Samsung in the high-end market segment and with Huawei and Coolpad and Lenovo in the entry level and mid-range market segments. This has led to a major setback for HTC.

Xiaomi: In mid-2013, Xiaomi launched two models, dubbed MI 3 which is the third generation of Xiaomi phones and Hongmi phone, Xiaomi's first value-line phone.
